The Colossi of Memnon 

One of the biggest tourist attractions located in the west bank of Luxor, the Colossi of Memnon it’s known for its majestic appearance and the mysterious sounds, there are 2 twin statues image of pharaoh Amenhotep III about 60 feet tall made of quartzite sandstone standing in the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple and 2 smaller statues carved near his feet one for his wife and one for his mother) as Pharaoh Amenhotep III reigned in Egypt during the 18th Dynasty from 1386 to 1349. During his kingdom he improved the architectural work in Egypt, it’s construction was completed by 1350 BC, the Colossi of Memnon was partially destroyed due to an earthquake at 27 BC, then it was restored by Roman during the Roman Empire in ancient Egypt.
The Colossi of Memnon was acting as guardians to which protect the Temple of Amenhotep III (Pharaoh’s temple) from evil. after the temple was destroyed by a severe earthquake the Colossi remained standing for thousands of years, furthermore Its modern Arabic name is Kom el-Hatan and the Colossi of Memnon is known for its Roman name.
